Pelham was founded in 1654 when Thomas Pell signed a treaty with the Siwanoy Indians and purchased more than 9000 acres that extended from parts of the Bronx north to Mamaroneck. Formed in 1788, the Town of Pelham is the oldest and smallest in Westchester County. Today it consists of a single unified school district and two villages, Pelham and Pelham Manor, with a combined population of 12,000 - a number that has not changed since 1940. Pelham’s neighborhoods consist of various historic architectural styles ranging from Shingle-Style Victorians to Tudor Revival.
