Nestled in the foothills of the Taconic Mountains lies the picturesque town of Putnam Valley. During the mid-l9th century the town was called Quincy and was originally part of Dutchess County. The Mohican Wappinger Tribe members were its first inhabitants. There was farming, charcoal making, iron mining and wood products manufacturing. Putnam Valley is known as the “Town of Lakes.” Roaring Brook Lake and Lake Peekskill are non-motorboat lakes.
