The Town of Standford was formed in 1793 from the Town of Washington. The Town celebrated its bicentennial in 1993. The Town's 50 square miles include the beautiful foothills of the Fishkill Range. The linear hamlet of Standfordville was a railroad center in the 19th century. The other two hamlets are Hunn's Lake and Bangall. Farming has been the major industry ever since the 18th century. Until WW ll many farms encouraged summer boarders as a way of adding to income. Hunn's Lake was a popular vacation spot featuring a dance hall and boarding houses.
