The hamlet of Thornwood is located in the town of Mount Pleasant approximately 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan. It is serviced by either the Pleasantville or Hawthorne train stations which are a short 50 minute train ride to Grand Central Terminal.
Mt. Pleasant is comprised of the villages of Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville and the hamlets of Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, Thornwood and Valhalla. Thornwood also is accessed by the Saw Mill Parkway and the Sprain Brook Parkway. Thornwood is set in the rolling countryside of Westchester County with a mix of housing options. A small variety of local shopping as well as a popular outdoor mall services the immediate area.
Educational Facilities
The Mount Pleasant School District serves the community of Thornwood along with Hawthorne and a part of North Castle. The School District is comprised of two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
Recreational Facilities
A variety of local recreation is available in the nearby hamlets and villages of Mount Pleasant and residents can find a spot for almost any activity. Nearby in Valhalla, the Kensico Dam Plaza offers biking, fishing, hiking, walking, ice-skating, in-line skating, nature study, an outdoor film festival, picnicking, and a playground. The Bronx River Parkway Reservation, also in Valhalla, provides hiking, ice-skating, a recreational trail and more. Another park in close proximity is The Graham Hills Mountain Bike Trail in Pleasantville, which offers cyclists a day of fresh air and exercise in a wooded and natural environment with a bike route winding through many diverse habitats of the beautiful 431-acre park.
