Town of Union Vale
|
Distance to NYC: 84 miles Area: 38.10 square miles
The setting of a pastoral
countryside, rich history and
fabulous parks have made
the town of Union Vale very
desirable and its only about
one hour from Manhattan.
Tymor Park is a 500-acre
park located in the Clove Valley
in the south central part of
Union Vale and extending into
the Town of Beekman. It includes Furnace Pond and
over one mile of the length of Fishkill Creek, a natural
trout stream of considerable fame. Most of the park
will remain forever wild as a nature preserve. The iron
mines and smelting furnace located now within the
park were of more importance than farmlands during
the American Revolution two hundred years ago. Frederick
Godfrey Memorial Park is a 12-acre parcel located
in the Village of Verbank. Both parks are maintained
for the residents use and enjoyment.
The Emigh House in Clove Valley is the oldest building
in Union Vale. The stone house was built in 1740
by Nicholas Emigh, a Palatine emigrant, on land purchased
from the Native Americans.
The Union Vale Historical Society recognizes the
need to preserve the town’s history and is dedicated
to preserving Union Vale’s heritage.
Educational Facilities
The Arlington Central School District, The Dover
Union-Free School District and The Millbrook Central
School District all serve the Town of Union Vale.
Recreational Facilities
The Links at Union Vale, an 18-hole course, has
been mentioned in various golf publications for its magnificent
layout. It is complimented by breathtaking
views of the countryside, three lakes and sweeping
fairways. This remarkable links-style course is reminiscent
of famous link courses in Ireland and Scotland.
The town has a very organized and active Parks and
Recreation Department.
Tymor Park and Godfrey Park offer miles of walking
and fitness trails, mountain biking trails, playgrounds,
swimming pool, pavilions and picnic areas, sport facilities
and the opportunity to boat and fish. There are
many programs available for the community. Furnace Pond Nature
Center is an ideal spot for a family picnic or to take
part in the nature programs available. It is also used
for ice skating in the winter months.
Houses of Worship
Include John 3:16, a Christian Center, Verbank
Methodist, Valley Bible Fellowship and Clove Valley
Alliance Church. Most all other denominations are
within a short driving distance.
