Valhalla, a hamlet of the town of Mount
Pleasant, is located about 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan in central
Westchester County and a short 41 minute train ride from Valhalla
runs straight into Grand Central Station. Mt. Pleasant is comprised
of the villages of Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville; hamlets of
Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, Thornwood, and Valhalla. Valhalla serves
as the town of Mount Pleasant's main shopping center and is the
location of Westchester Medical Center with its new state-of-the art
children's hospital. The parks and reservations nearby provide
residents with many recreational opportunities and there seems to be
something for everyone in the neighboring hamlets and villages of
Mount Pleasant.
Educational Facilities
The Valhalla Union Free School District serves Valhalla as well as parts of the towns of Mt. Pleasant, North Castle and Greenburgh. The Valhalla Union Free School District is comprised of two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The School District is dedicated to teaching students to develop desired moral, ethical and cultural values, as well as stimulate and expand a continual learning process.
Recreational Facilities
The Kensico Dam Plaza is a 98-acre property located at the base of the Kensico Dam with attractions including biking, fishing, hiking, walking, ice-skating, in-line skating, nature study, an outdoor film festival, picnicking and a playground. The Bronx River Parkway Reservation is one of Westchester's oldest parks with fishing, biking, walking, jogging, a recreational trail and more. The Musical Revue at Westchester Community College also offers residents entertainment. Nearby in Sleepy Hollow is The Philipsburg Manor, a historic site that vividly interprets aspects of the history of Colonial.
